On one of our last days in London, we reflected on our list of things to do, see and eat. We found one important item unchecked. We hadn’t taken the long tube ride out to west London to eat at the 222 Veggie Vegan Restaurant. I’d read a bit about it online, including posts by Quarry Girl and Vegan in Brighton, and really wanted visit and try their crazy looking pancake dessert.
After an hour on the tube, we arrived at 222 ready to eat. We had two choices for lunch, indulge in the all you can eat buffet for £7.50 GBP ($11.06 USD) or grab a box of takeout for £5.50 GBP ($8.11 USD). Keeping in mind we wanted to save room for dessert, we went for the takeout and stuffed enough food in their little takeout box to feed us both. We walked to a nearby park and enjoyed our lunch on a bench beside some community garden plots.
From the lunch buffet, we scored steamed vegetables, spaghetti, veggie salad, bean salad, sprouts, curry and potatoes. It didn’t look very pretty stuffed in the takeout box, but the food was simple, healthy and yummy. After finishing our lunch in the park, we headed back to 222 for dessert.
Vegan pancakes are rare. Vegan pancakes stuffed with ice cream, covered in chocolate and vanilla sauce…well, it was a first for us! The wholemeal pancake was made to order and dolled up with fresh berries. Stuffed with vanilla ice cream, the whole thing reminded me of the crazy dessert crepes they sell in Japan.
The pancake was quite thin, I’d actually classify it as a crepe. It was delicious and we felt very spoiled to be enjoying such a treat. However, we found it incredibly messy and hard to eat. We both used a fork, knife, and spoon, a total of six pieces of cutlery, to finish off this unique creation. The price was super reasonable, especially for London, ringing in at £3.70 GBP ($5.45 USD).
If you live in London or have more than a few days to visit, I’d recommend making the long trip out to 222 for a cheap lunch and some dessert. Despite the hour it took us to travel each way, it was definitely worth it.

‘Pancake’ in the UK means crepe, ie thin, not thick like a North American style pancake
I’ll be in London next weekend so this is great to know! I am looking forward to the ice-cream filled crepe already…despite the frigid weather!
So glad to hear that you made a visit to 222. My uncle is the head chef at the restaurant. Did you manage to speak with Ben?
