I recently interviewed Kristin from the Will Travel for Vegan Food project. Learn all about this epic road trip and how you can support it by funding the Kickstarter campaign.

What’s the Will Travel for Vegan Food project all about?
The “WTF Vegan Food” project is a year-long vegan food focused road trip across the US. The plan is to eat at all of the 100% vegan restaurants in the country, as well as visit all 50 states! :)

I’ll be interviewing restaurant owners, business owners, and attending vegan meetups, as well as volunteering at farm sanctuaries and the like, all along the way.

What inspired your trip?
Nearly a year ago I started reading about unconventional living, and being able to travel while work thanks to the Internet. I had also picked up two books that were turning points for me: Crush It! Why Now Is The Time To Cash In On Your Passion and  The 4-Hour Work Week. It was like a one-two punch to the gut style, wake up call. After reading these books I was more inspired than ever to following my passions.

Passions: after becoming vegan I had fallen in love with food and I had also been bitten with the travel bug … so within a few months I was creating a plan to leave my 9-5 job and hit to road on what’s sure to be an epic adventure that combines my love of food and interest in travel. :)

Where are you planning to go?
The plan is to attempt to eat at all of the 100% vegan restaurants in the US. So I’ll be going to every state that has an all vegan restaurant. However, visiting all 50 states is on my “BID list” so I’m going to use this as an opportunity to visit every state and stop in the ones that have some good touristy or outdoorsy activities, or must-see US landmarks.

How are you preparing for this adventure?

I started preparing about a year ago, setting up a lifestyle that would allow me to work from my computer. At the time I was working a tradition, in-office 9-5 job but left that job about 8 months ago, started my own business, and now work from wherever there is an Internet connection. It’s pretty great! (Side note: If you know anyone who’d like help with online marketing, give ‘em my number ..haha)

What are you hoping to accomplish?

I feel like there are so many things this trip can accomplish, both for the vegan movement and for me personally.  For starters, the overarching goal is to increase awareness of veganism throughout the US. Showcasing those amazing vegan restaurants that might be hidden away or in small towns.

Also, by conducting interviews I hope to share the vegan knowledge of many others, including their vegan passions and to show that the vegan movement truly is taking hold in the US, we just have to keep moving.

Ultimately I want to connect vegans to vegans, connect vegans to non-vegans, and continue to push this amazing, life-changing movement!

Aside from all the vegan love I hope to share, I also see this trip as a personal journey of self-growth and self-discovery. I’ve only ever read about people leaving their “real jobs” behind to find inspiration in nontraditional adventures or living situations. And now I’m about to do that too.

I am fortunate to have incredible support from my family, in anything I’ve ever wanted to do. This has allowed me to follow what people might truly think of only as dreams, and make them a reality. This journey is just another step toward something that makes me so happy and excited that I can’t sleep at night, and I think about it constantly.  That’s how I know I need to go for it. Whether I make it or not, I’m going to give it all I’ve got. (did not intentionally rhyme there :)

How can we stay up to date on your travels?
I’m going to be documenting every step of the journey via my website: wtfveganfood.com, as well as posting more frequently about the trip to facebook and twitter. If anyone would like to reach me asap, please email [email protected].
