I’m from brazil and discovered your blog through facebook…
So, there’s a soymilk dulce de letche vegan too, and it usually can be found in mundo verde.
I think it’s better than the condensed milk…
I prefer to do my own condensed milk (it’s pretty easy) to do brigadeiro and other stuff… here in Brazil is common to use condensed milk in a lot of desserts, and to veganize it, we exchange the dairy version to the vegan version…
I wish you guys can keep enjoying the trip :)

Didn’t you try a vegan version of “feijoada”, black beans served with kale, “farofa” (toasted cassava flour), rice and fried cassava? That’s the best Brazilian dish! All the ingredients can be found everywhere in North America.

What a fantastic set of treats you managed to find!

We stumbled across the ChocoSoy Pops at a Mundo Verde store in Rio — there are several of those stores so finding these vegan treats should be easy. And if you don’t mind spending an arm and a leg, there is a good supply of vegan dark chocolate at a wine store on Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana somewhere around where it crosses Rua Bolivar.

Those are some amazing finds! Argentina has to be the least vegan-friendly place I have every visited, but there is always the candy :)

I like the concept of that hand roll, thanks for posting about that, I am going to have to mull some ideas over.

Jill and John….I really enjoyed this post….the great photos and write-ups on all the vegan treats you discovered… amazing. I didn’t think being a “vegan” backpacker would be so easy. I am glad you are able to continue your healthy eating habits.

Wow, I’m so amazed that you were able to ferret out so many delicious snacks! Very much in love with the candied fig + walnut idea, and the carob covered bananas. I do think carob has its place in the world :P
