Thanks for tips! Especially about Oaxaca. I am on a 3 month contract in Mexico City and I'm vegan. The longer I am here the more I discover, thanks to Happy Cow!

My visit to vegetariano yug was interesting. The place was sooo busy and my spanish is minimal so when I tried to order something 'sin queso, sin crema, sin lenche' the waiter was dumbfounded. I ended up just ordering a chinese type of rice dish that was actually really really delicious, but I was looking for something more interesting!

I have yet to go to 100% natural but I did check out their website :)

Three other incredibly vegan friendly restaurants have been:

1. Nirvana

Puebla 120, Mexico City Mexico

An indian style vegetarian buffet near the Insurgentes Metro Station. The woman told me there was no cream, milk or cheese on the buffet line that day. The food was delicious but I got sick. Maybe I ate too much? Not sure but that place was still awesome.

2. Hoja Santa

Cuernavaca No. 4, Col. Condesa, Mexico City Mexico (03100)

A brand new, slightly nicer organic restaurant in the Condesa two blocks from my apartment! The owner introduced herself to me by saying, "I do not condone in any way the consumption of meat, dairy products from cows or gluten." I wanted to kiss her. She does serve dairy products from goats and fish. Other than that the place was entirely vegan and the food was fresh and delicious. 85 pesos for a soup, entree, desert and water of the day. Amazing.

3. Vegetariano Madera

Madero 56, 1er. piso, Colonia Centro Historical, Mexico City Mexico (at Isabel la Catolica, 2 blocks from main square/upstairs/Metro: Zocalo)

A cute, busy restaurant right off the Zocalo! They had an authentic Mexican band playing and they had many combinations of courses for only $60 pesos! I got very full there. The waiter was so busy, similar to the Yug, and didn't have time to help me understand which dishes on their menu of the day were vegan. But eventually the owner came out and her took her time with me :) I definitely recommend that place if you're spending the day in the Centro.

Hi Marie. Thanks for the mexico city restaurant suggestions. Just wondering if you know what kind, if any, products we might be able to find while travelling there in the next few weeks. Stuff like, earth balance or veganaise or any other vegan goodies/necessities you may have seen in the supermarkets?
Thanks

What a great post - I spent some time in Mexico before I was vegan, and it's great to know that there are some good options there! I just got a note from someone in Mexico City actually, so I'll forward this to him in case he hasn't found Vegetarian Yug yet.
Thanks!

We vacationed in Puerto Vallarta because it has several veg or veg-friendly restaurants. 100% Natural was across the street from our not-veg-friendly hotel, so we ate there a lot and loved it, especially the veg tacos (so good) and the giant fresh juices.
